AfroJazz Fest vise à mettre en valeur la beauté et la diversité des cultures africaines et caribéennes dans la région de Halton (Ontario) à travers les arts de la scène, les arts visuels, la musique, la gastronomie, les jeux, contes et légendes, et autres. Le festival a lieu une fois par an, le dernier week-end d’août. Des artistes de plus de 12 communautés ethnoculturelles divertiront le public et insuffleront la fierté de l’histoire et de la culture afro-caribéenne lors de cette édition 2022.
Au programme : Rumba, Salsa, Reggae, Afro-soul, Musique traditionnelle africaine, Cercle de tambours, atelier de danse africaine, activités pour enfants, etc.

A show done in English, French, Spanish, Patois with music played from all over the world and featuring International and local Artists. Some include, Alison Hinds, Alborosie, Miriam Simone, Arkaingelle, Danglin, Concha Buika, Ed Robinson, Donovan Joseph, Autarchii, Dione Taylor, Mystically, Dr. Sley, Imaara, Tony Anthony, Fred Locks, JaBig, to name a few. Previously hosted shows such as World Skip the beat, Basa Basa and Jazz Euphorium.
She was a Radio Host/DJ and in the past under the pseudonym Princess Ti in Atlanta, Georgia. She has interviewed greats such as Lee Scratch Perry, Etana, Morgan Heritage, Nakeeba Amaniyea (Sister Carol’s daughter).

TDot Batu is a tightly knit Afro-Brazilian percussion batucada inspired by the power and dedicated to the study of the rich rhythmic tradition born out of the fusion of samba and reggae from Salvador, Bahia. As integral part of the Toronto Tropical music scene, the band collaborate with members of the arts and music community to create spectacular participatory celebrations that reflect the vast color and energy of Brazilian culture. TDot Batu offer a mixture of infectious rhythms that makes the atmosphere a real Dancefloor.

She has performed in Europe, North America, Latin America and the Caribbean. Shy to sing off stage but a tigress on. She is captivating, eclectic with a deep soulful voice that can transcend to angelic sounds.
Her hit Independent Single and Video Release December 31, 2020, Warrior King (Musical Production, Nigeria) is emblematic in love, giving a Reggae Dancehall Afro flow to captivate the listeners. It made such Spotify lists as Reggae Meets Dancehall, Groover, Tinnitist Top 100, Ethnocloud World Music Charts Top 40 ++ and has reached over 78 Countries.

K’bola Band is a Hamilton based Latin ensemble. Co-founded by Cuban Musicians Javier Martinez and Gianny Correa in 2014, K’Bola Band brings to the stage an unique show full of energy with plenty of Latin flavours.
Formed by musicians of different Latin American countries like Cuba, Salvador, Colombia and Panama.
Every band member contributes with a little bit of their own experiences to enhance the way we perform so the audience gets to capture the true essence of our roots of origin.

“Alpha Rhythm Roots” was founded in 1999.
The founder and artistic director of Alpha Rhythm Roots, Alpha, is from Guinea, West Africa. Alpha has played African percussion for over two decades, and is based in Toronto – Canada.
In collaboration with award winning percussionists Derek Thorne, Walter MacLean, Dancer and multi-disciplinary artist Fumu Jahmez, as well as other professional musicians and artists, Alpha regularly performs and provide drumming related services, in French or English, at concerts, festivals, cultural events, schools, private corporate events, and community fundraiser in the Greater Toronto Area, across Ontario, in Canada, and worldwide by means of virtual services.
The many past appearances and collaboration work of “Alpha Rhythm Roots” include a concert with rock band Juno award winner “Sam Roberts” and “Sam Roberts Bands”, with a percussive arrangement for a few tracks of the “New Years Eve 2014 E.T Canada concert” in Niagara Falls.
Alpha has already been featured on Canadian television (TFO, VIA TVA, Fibe TV), in documentaries and interviews about traditional music in Guinea and West Africa.
Alpha has also worked on the composition and recording of music for TV documentaries. He is specialized in base drum “Doundoun” percussion instrument, but also plays the Djembe drum among other West African musical percussive instruments.

Okavango African Orchestra – Multiple instruments, ten languages, and seven countries define Okavango African Orchestra, winners of the 2017 JUNO Award for World Music Album and 2020 JUNO Award nominee for their new album – Africa Without Borders.
Okavango African Orchestra is an ambitious musical ensemble created by Batuki Music Society, a non-profit African arts organization based in Toronto. Artistic Director Nadine McNulty assembled a cast of accomplished African-born musicians who now live in Toronto and Montreal: Daniel Nebiat (krar, vocals), Kofi Ackah (percussion, vocals), Tichaona Maredza (nyunga-nyunga, guitar, hosho, vocals), Sadio Sissokho (kora, tama, djembe, vocals), Ebenezer Agyekum (bass guitar, vocals), Assane Seck (guitar, vocals), Aron Nitunga (guitar, vocals) and Mabinty Sylla (dance).
The orchestra takes its name from the Okavango Delta, a basin in the Kalahari Desert in Botswana, where many different animal species come together to feed and find water. Predators and prey are forced to coexist and share the meager resources because of the harsh environment around them. Similarly, Okavango: An African Orchestra brings together the traditional music and instruments of several major African cultures that historically have had little or no interaction. The musicians of Okavango have created a common meeting place for these disparate cultures, and a new musical language that harmonizes their different tuning systems, rhythms, and timbres. The musicians and instruments of Okavango represent a continuum of traditions and cultures from time immemorial to the present day. The multicultural spirit of modern-day Canada bridges ancient African solitudes.

Okavango African Orchestra revisited the site of its triumphant debut, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation to record the group’s debut, self-titled album of ten songs, released in February 2016, which was awarded the 2017 JUNO for World Music Album of the Year. The group recently released their second album, titled “Africa Without Borders” and in February 2020, the album was nominated for a 2020 JUNO Award for World Music Album of the Year.
Okavango African Orchestra looks ahead on its continuing journey to an “Africa without borders… before the borders were created”.

Okavango African Orchestra est un ensemble musical ambitieux créé par Batuki Music Society, une organisation artistique africaine à but non lucratif basée à Toronto. Sage is a singer, dancer, songwriter and musician from the Democratic Republic of Congo who grew up on the streets and performed with his stepfather in the N’djili neighborhood of Kinshasa where people with disabilities are segregated. They worked for many years with the music group Bendabilili in Congo-Kinshasa.
They also toured the world for three years with the Afropunk band, Mbongwana Star, playing in major venues and also the main stages of international music festivals. He has composed and recorded many songs for Mbongwana Star. Many of his songs are revolutionary, such as Bitumba and Opposition, protesting crimes against humanity and government corruption.
Sage often dreamed of starting a solo music career in Canada, hoping to collaborate with other African musicians. His musical style is a fusion of Congolese rumba, afrobeat and rock, but he wishes to incorporate traditional instruments and genres from other African countries into his work. Sage has already experimented with the inclusion of flute, balafon, kora and mbira in his melodies. He sings and composes in Lingala, French, Swahili and English.
Now that he resides in Toronto, he is looking forward to performing and recording his ten new compositions. Sage is eager to share his perspectives on themes ranging from dedication, willpower and love to peace and war. If asked about his secret to being a successful artist, Sage will tell you that talent alone is not enough: creating good music is nothing without hard work.
