AfroJazz FEST is designed to celebrate African, Caribbean, Afro-descendant and Francophone cultures. It aims to showcase the beauty and diversity of these cultures through performing arts, visual arts, music, multicultural gastronomy, games, tales & legends, and more.
AfroJazz FEST provides a platform for local and international artists to perform for a diverse audience, sharing their music and cultural heritage.
Artists from over 12 ethno-cultural communities will entertain audiences and instill pride in Afro-Caribbean history and culture at this 2024 edition.
Program: multicultural gastronomy, cultural parade and dance, family entertainment, live musical performances (Rumba, Salsa, Reggae, Afro-soul, traditional African music), drum circle, African dance workshop, as well as specially designed activities for children, and more)

Amara Kanté is a world-renowned musician and percussionist, born into an ancient lineage of sacred blacksmiths from West Africa known as the Numu. Of Malinké origin, the Numu clan is credited with the creation of the famous djembe drum, of which Amara is considered a spiritual guardian.
Kanté has led a prolific career spanning over four decades. As a composer, artistic director, and co-founder of the Kouraba Toronto Centre for Cultural Advancement, a non-profit organization based in Toronto, Amara is a passionate advocate for West African percussion workshops, philosophy, music, and dance.
He has performed at numerous music events around the world, and his distinctive drumming style has also featured in various stage and film productions. Amara has collaborated with some of the most iconic figures in world music, including Peter Gabriel, François Moity, Big Sugar, Mory Kanté, Kassé Mady Diabaté, Souleman Koli, and Judy Mowatt, to name just a few.
Amara Kanté est un musicien et percussionniste de renommée mondiale, issu d’une ancienne lignée de forgerons sacrés d’Afrique de l’Ouest, les « Numu ». D’origine malinké, le clan Numu est à l’origine du célèbre djembé, un tambour dont il est le gardien spirituel.
Kanté mène une carrière prolifique qui s’étend sur plus de quatre décennies. Compositeur, directeur artistique et cofondateur du Kouraba Toronto Centre for Cultural Advancement, un organisme à but non lucratif basé à Toronto, Amara est un fervent défenseur des ateliers de percussions, de la philosophie, de la musique et de la danse d’Afrique de l’Ouest.

Carlton C.R. Roberts is a seasoned singer, songwriter, producer, and keyboardist originally from the vibrant Caribbean Island of Saint Lucia. Since moving to Canada in 1994, he has become a pillar of Toronto’s Caribbean music scene, celebrated for his dynamic performances and creative versatility.
Carlton has graced the stage with some of Toronto’s top Caribbean bands, including Passion, Faze, and Neu Jenarashun, and served as lead vocalist for Moses Revolution. He is currently backed by his band, The Guardians, continuing to deliver high-energy, crowd-pleasing performances across Canada.
Over the years, he has performed alongside an impressive lineup of legendary artists such as Calypso Rose, Percy Sledge, David Rudder, The Mighty Shadow, Alison Hinds, Baron, Crazy, Sugar Aloes, Invader, and The Mighty Sparrow.
A prolific songwriter and producer, Carlton’s musical influence extends across borders. He has collaborated with acclaimed artists like Anselm Douglas (Trinidad), Alpha, Menell, Lady Leen, and Robbie (all of St. Lucia), as well as Moses Revolution (Canada), among others. His creative vision and deep-rooted passion continue to shape the Caribbean sound in Canada and beyond.
Carlton’s original tracks, including fan favorites like Woolé, Whine for Me, Fly, Good Oye, Ah Happy, Maté, Bad and Boldface, We Nah Leaving, and Pace Yourself, reflect his unique blend of Caribbean rhythm and lyrical storytelling.

Born in 1975 in a village close to Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, West Africa, Moulaye Dicko (known by his stage name, Dicko Fils), is the sixth of 14 children, and the son of a Peulh cattle trader. As a youth, while studying the Koran in Mali, a centre of the Mandingo musical tradition, Dicko was inspired by some of Africa’s great vocal artists – Oumou Sangaré, Salif Keita, Ali Farka Touré, and Baaba Maal. The adolescent Dicko, having moved to Abidjan in the Ivory Coast in 1992, adopted reggae to channel his musical traditions and express his unique spirit. Success with his band, Le Faso Kanou, allowed him to drop his back-up sewing job and, in 2005, release his first album, Tounga, a blend of reggae and Mandingo blues. Drawn back to his roots and homeland, Burkina Faso, he rebuilt his band, mixing modern and traditional instruments. A drum set and bass and lead guitars appeared alongside the balafon, djembe, tamani, and the kamalé n’goni at which Dicko himself excelled. Added to this rich mix were two singer-dancers. Thanks to an impressive melodic and vocal range and his incorporation of local rhythms from the Dioula and Peulh people, Dicko Fils’ reputation spread rapidly throughout West Africa, bolstered by the release of albums in 2007, 2010, and 2012. The media went wild over his 2014 album, Fina Tawa, composed entirely in the Fulfulde and Peulh languages. The title track, “Denke Denke” soon dominated dance floors. As Dicko explains, “The song was sung by Ali Farka Touré and Oumou Sangaré. But I told myself that people love Peulh music, yet it is not played and danced everywhere. I thought about how to make Peulh music everywhere. I made a mix of modern and traditional music and, thank God, Peulh music is everywhere.” His latest album, Wakati, appeared in 2016. Kirk Diamond is a Juno award winning, singer, songwriter, producer and social activist. Kirk spreads messages of unity, inclusion and love through his music, joined by his band The Movement of Ahryel. Recipient of the 2020 International Vigor Award and 6 x Juno Award Nominee, Kirk was recognized in 2022 for his achievement in music and culture by the City of Brampton where he resides with a park named in his honour. This makes Diamond the only living reggae artist to be honored with a park. In addition he was recognized as distinguished alumni by the Dufferin Peel School Board and received The Impact Award for his rich influence in entertainment. Kirk is currently on tour promoting his debut album “DREAD” that was released October 6th , 2023, that gifted him his 3rd Juno Award in 2024. DREAD includes the lead Single “Reggae Party” that won a Juno in 2023. As well as the second single “Bring It Good” that was featured in the Drama film “ When Morning Comes.” On October 15th , 2024 Kirk unveiled his highly anticipated new single “Deh Yah “ which depicts and celebrates his cultural adaptation.

Amara Kanté est un musicien et percussionniste de renommée mondiale, issu d’une ancienne lignée de forgerons sacrés d’Afrique de l’Ouest, les « Numu ». D’origine malinké, le clan Numu est à l’origine du célèbre djembé, un tambour dont il est le gardien spirituel.
Kanté mène une carrière prolifique qui s’étend sur plus de quatre décennies. Compositeur, directeur artistique et cofondateur du Kouraba Toronto Centre for Cultural Advancement, un organisme à but non lucratif basé à Toronto, Amara est un fervent défenseur des ateliers de percussions, de la philosophie, de la musique et de la danse d’Afrique de l’Ouest.
Amara s’est produit lors de nombreux événements musicaux à travers le monde et son caractéristique de batteur se retrouve également dans diverses productions scéniques et cinématographiques. Il a collaboré avec certaines des plus grandes icônes de la musique du monde : Peter Gabriel, François Moity, Big Sugar, Mory Kanté, Kassé Mady Diabaté, Souleman Koli et Judy Mowatt, pour n’en citer que quelques-uns.

Lorraine Klaasen, the daughter of legendary South African Jazz singer Thandie Klaasen, is one of the few South African artists who have preserved the classic sound of Township Music, which continues to be the most distinctive sound to come out of South Africa. Born and raised in Soweto, Lorraine has electrified audiences worldwide with her dynamic stage presence and showmanship. Lorraine was influenced by South Africa’s musical giants of the 1950’s and 1960’s, such as Miriam Makeba (who was a close friend of Lorraine and Thandie) as well as Dolly Rathebe, Dorothy Masuka, Sophie Mgcina and Busi Mhlongo who frequented her mother’s home. In February 2008, Lorraine released the highly charged album Africa Calling on the Justin Time label.
Through working with South African record producer Mongezi Chris Ntaka, and featuring bassist Bakhiti Khumalo (who also memorably performed on Paul Simon’s landmark album, Graceland), Lorraine accomplished her childhood dreams of taking Township music to the rest of the globe and making a truly African record that touches every heart & soul that beats the world over.Her CD A Tribute To Miriam Makeba which won Lorraine the 2013 Juno Award for World Music Album of the Year, is a tribute to the legendary songstress, who remains the most important female vocalist to emerge out of South Africa. Hailed as the ‘Empress of African Song’ and ‘Mama Africa’, she helped bring African music to a global audience in the ’60s. In a fitting homage, Lorraine and her band do ‘Auntie’ Miriam justice with energetic and heartfelt renditions of South African classic and traditional folk songs, including those that Miriam Makeba brought to the masses like Pata Pata, The Click Song and Jolinkomo, as well as Lorraine’s own compositions inspired by the lady herself.
Lorraine’s new and most ambitious CD is entitled Nouvelle Journée and is also co[1]produced by Mongezi; it showcases some of the musical styles that Lorraine has not yet recorded in her long musical career. On this album she sings in the Tsonga, Sotho, isiZulu and Xhosa languages of South Africa as well as English and French. The repertoire is thought provoking the importance of family, empathy, love and hope make up Nouvelle Journée. It’s an optimistic, danceable record but also a lucid, sincere and engaging work.

Amara Kanté is a world-renowned musician and percussionist, born into an ancient lineage of sacred blacksmiths from West Africa known as the Numu. Of Malinké origin, the Numu clan is credited with the creation of the famous djembe drum, of which Amara is considered a spiritual guardian.
Kanté has led a prolific career spanning over four decades. As a composer, artistic director, and co-founder of the Kouraba Toronto Centre for Cultural Advancement, a non-profit organization based in Toronto, Amara is a passionate advocate for West African percussion workshops, philosophy, music, and dance.
He has performed at numerous music events around the world, and his distinctive drumming style has also featured in various stage and film productions. Amara has collaborated with some of the most iconic figures in world music, including Peter Gabriel, François Moity, Big Sugar, Mory Kanté, Kassé Mady Diabaté, Souleman Koli, and Judy Mowatt, to name just a few.

Carlton C.R. Roberts is a seasoned singer, songwriter, producer, and keyboardist originally from the vibrant Caribbean Island of Saint Lucia. Since moving to Canada in 1994, he has become a pillar of Toronto’s Caribbean music scene, celebrated for his dynamic performances and creative versatility.
Carlton has graced the stage with some of Toronto’s top Caribbean bands, including Passion, Faze, and Neu Jenarashun, and served as lead vocalist for Moses Revolution. He is currently backed by his band, The Guardians, continuing to deliver high-energy, crowd-pleasing performances across Canada.
Over the years, he has performed alongside an impressive lineup of legendary artists such as Calypso Rose, Percy Sledge, David Rudder, The Mighty Shadow, Alison Hinds, Baron, Crazy, Sugar Aloes, Invader, and The Mighty Sparrow.
A prolific songwriter and producer, Carlton’s musical influence extends across borders. He has collaborated with acclaimed artists like Anselm Douglas (Trinidad), Alpha, Menell, Lady Leen, and Robbie (all of St. Lucia), as well as Moses Revolution (Canada), among others. Born in 1975 in a village close to Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, West Africa, Moulaye Dicko (known by his stage name, Dicko Fils), is the sixth of 14 children, and the son of a Peulh cattle trader. As a youth, while studying the Koran in Mali, a centre of the Mandingo musical tradition, Dicko was inspired by some of Africa’s great vocal artists – Oumou Sangaré, Salif Keita, Ali Farka Touré, and Baaba Maal. The adolescent Dicko, having moved to Abidjan in the Ivory Coast in 1992, adopted reggae to channel his musical traditions and express his unique spirit. Success with his band, Le Faso Kanou, allowed him to drop his back-up sewing job and, in 2005, release his first album, Tounga, a blend of reggae and Mandingo blues. Drawn back to his roots and homeland, Burkina Faso, he rebuilt his band, mixing modern and traditional instruments. A drum set and bass and lead guitars appeared alongside the balafon, djembe, tamani, and the kamalé n’goni at which Dicko himself excelled. Added to this rich mix were two singer-dancers. Thanks to an impressive melodic and vocal range and his incorporation of local rhythms from the Dioula and Peulh people, Dicko Fils’ reputation spread rapidly throughout West Africa, bolstered by the release of albums in 2007, 2010, and 2012. The media went wild over his 2014 album, Fina Tawa, composed entirely in the Fulfulde and Peulh languages. The title track, “Denke Denke” soon dominated dance floors. As Dicko explains, “The song was sung by Ali Farka Touré and Oumou Sangaré. But I told myself that people love Peulh music, yet it is not played and danced everywhere. I thought about how to make Peulh music everywhere. I made a mix of modern and traditional music and, thank God, Peulh music is everywhere.” His latest album, Wakati, appeared in 2016. Dicko Fils’ artistic talents have made him a regular guest at cultural festivals in Burkina Faso and beyond, such as the Pan-African Film Festival (FESPACO), the International Art and Craft Fair (SIAO), National Culture Week (SNC) , Les Nuits Atypiques de Koudougou (NAK), Jazz à Ouaga, the Saga Musik Festival, WEELTARE, and the Cultural and Horse Festival of Barani (FECHIBA). As well, Dicko has provided musical production in theatrical creations such as Récréatrales and Un Village Dans Une Ville. Dicko Fils’ artistic talents have made him a regular guest at cultural festivals in Burkina Faso and beyond, such as the Pan-African Film Festival (FESPACO), the International Art and Craft Fair (SIAO), National Culture Week (SNC) , Les Nuits Atypiques de Koudougou (NAK), Jazz à Ouaga, the Saga Musik Festival, WEELTARE, and the Cultural and Horse Festival of Barani (FECHIBA). As well, Dicko has provided musical production in theatrical creations such as Récréatrales and Un Village Dans Une Ville. The year 2017 will see Dicko touring in Canada and the USA.

L’intention de Dicko Fils, légitimée par sa voix couvrant plusieurs octaves, n’est rien de moins que de promouvoir les traditions Peulh et Dioula partout dans le monde en les rendant accessibles à tous les publics. Ce maître du ngoni, fait Chevalier de l’Ordre du mérite par le ministère burkinabè de la culture, a roulé sa bosse au Mali et en Côte d’ivoire, touchant au Reggae et aux rythmes Wassoulou et s’inspirant des plus grands comme Salif Keita, Oumou Sangaré et Ali Farka Touré, avant de revenir au pays et de prendre position pour la démocratisation de sa culture musicale, y adjoignant notamment des rythmes populaires tels que le coupé-décalé. Une approche qui lui a valu une ribambelle de prix en Afrique de l’Ouest.

Kirk Diamond is a Juno award winning, singer, songwriter, producer and social activist. Kirk spreads messages of unity, inclusion and love through his music, joined by his band The Movement of Ahryel. Recipient of the 2020 International Vigor Award and 6 x Juno Award Nominee, Kirk was recognized in 2022 for his achievement in music and culture by the City of Brampton where he resides with a park named in his honour. This makes Diamond the only living reggae artist to be honored with a park. In addition he was recognized as distinguished alumni by the Dufferin Peel School Board and received The Impact Award for his rich influence in entertainment. Kirk is currently on tour promoting his debut album “DREAD” that was released October 6th , 2023, that gifted him his 3rd Juno Award in 2024. DREAD includes the lead Single “Reggae Party” that won a Juno in 2023. As well as the second single “Bring It Good” that was featured in the Drama film “ When Morning Comes.” On October 15th , 2024 Kirk unveiled his highly anticipated new single “Deh Yah “ which depicts and celebrates his cultural adaptation.

Amara Kanté est un musicien et percussionniste de renommée mondiale, issu d’une ancienne lignée de forgerons sacrés d’Afrique de l’Ouest, les « Numu ». D’origine malinké, le clan Numu est à l’origine du célèbre djembé, un tambour dont il est le gardien spirituel.
Kanté mène une carrière prolifique qui s’étend sur plus de quatre décennies. Compositeur, directeur artistique et cofondateur du Kouraba Toronto Centre for Cultural Advancement, un organisme à but non lucratif basé à Toronto, Amara est un fervent défenseur des ateliers de percussions, de la philosophie, de la musique et de la danse d’Afrique de l’Ouest.
Amara s’est produit lors de nombreux événements musicaux à travers le monde et son caractéristique de batteur se retrouve également dans diverses productions scéniques et cinématographiques. Il a collaboré avec certaines des plus grandes icônes de la musique du monde : Peter Gabriel, François Moity, Big Sugar, Mory Kanté, Kassé Mady Diabaté, Souleman Koli et Judy Mowatt, pour n’en citer que quelques-uns.

Lorraine Klaasen, the daughter of legendary South African Jazz singer Thandie Klaasen, is one of the few South African artists who have preserved the classic sound of Township Music, which continues to be the most distinctive sound to come out of South Africa. Born and raised in Soweto, Lorraine has electrified audiences worldwide with her dynamic stage presence and showmanship. Lorraine was influenced by South Africa’s musical giants of the 1950’s and 1960’s, such as Miriam Makeba (who was a close friend of Lorraine and Thandie) as well as Dolly Rathebe, Dorothy Masuka, Sophie Mgcina and Busi Mhlongo who frequented her mother’s home. In February 2008, Lorraine released the highly charged album Africa Calling on the Justin Time label.
Through working with South African record producer Mongezi Chris Ntaka, and featuring bassist Bakhiti Khumalo (who also memorably performed on Paul Simon’s landmark album, Graceland), Lorraine accomplished her childhood dreams of taking Township music to the rest of the globe and making a truly African record that touches every heart & soul that beats the world over.Her CD A Tribute To Miriam Makeba which won Lorraine the 2013 Juno Award for World Music Album of the Year, is a tribute to the legendary songstress, who remains the most important female vocalist to emerge out of South Africa. Hailed as the ‘Empress of African Song’ and ‘Mama Africa’, she helped bring African music to a global audience in the ’60s. In a fitting homage, Lorraine and her band do ‘Auntie’ Miriam justice with energetic and heartfelt renditions of South African classic and traditional folk songs, including those that Miriam Makeba brought to the masses like Pata Pata, The Click Song and Jolinkomo, as well as Lorraine’s own compositions inspired by the lady herself.
Lorraine’s new and most ambitious CD is entitled Nouvelle Journée and is also co[1]produced by Mongezi; it showcases some of the musical styles that Lorraine has not yet recorded in her long musical career. On this album she sings in the Tsonga, Sotho, isiZulu and Xhosa languages of South Africa as well as English and French. The repertoire is thought provoking the importance of family, empathy, love and hope make up Nouvelle Journée. It’s an optimistic, danceable record but also a lucid, sincere and engaging work.

Gianny Correa in 2014, K’Bola Band brings to the stage an unique show full of energy with plenty of Latin flavours.
Formed by musicians of different Latin American countries like Cuba, Salvador, Colombia and Panama.
Every band member contributes with a little bit of their own experiences to enhance the way we perform so the audience gets to capture the true essence of our roots of origin.

Chaque membre du groupe contribue avec un peu de ses propres expériences pour améliorer la façon don’t nous nous produisons afin que le public puisse capturer la véritable essence de nos racines d’origine.
